Magnetic Island can boast year round sunshine and gloriously warm weather....

"Summer" Climate

The hottest part of the year on Magnetic Island is roughtly from Oct - Feb where the average temperature is around 32 degrees C, days and nights will feel hot, humid and sticky. This is also traditionally the rainy season, with most rain falling between Dec - Feb. Rain is infrequent but when it finally does rain, it pours, and pours... the creeks and waterfalls fill up, rainwater will cascade down from the hills and make it's way to the ocean. Flooding may occur on the island on these occasions. The ocean temperature also rises during these months however it is vital to take the precaution of wearing a "Stinger Suit" as these warm months coincide with "Stinger Season" when jellyfish can be found in the vicinity. The larger, more visible jellyfish are usually less dangerous but it's the smaller, less visible ones such as Irukandji and Box Jellyfish that one must take care to avoid. It is recommended that swimmers should stay within the "Stinger Nets" however even these are no guarentee. The best bet is to ensure you are adequately protected by wearing a stinger suit.

"Winter" Climate

The cool Season. I hesitate to call it "Winter" as "Winter" on Magnetic Island is generally more pleasant than even an English Summer. The "Winter" months are roughly from June - Sept. Daily temperatures are almost perfect at around 25 degrees C, give or take a few degrees. There is little or no humidity and virtually no rain during these months. In the evenings it will be alot cooler and you will need a warm top such as a jumper, you might even want to wear socks...! Generally the skies will be beautifully cloudless, with the morning feeling fresh and a light dew on the grass. The best and most spectacular sunsets will occur at this time of year. These months are also the best for swimming in the various bays around the island, in my opinion, as the ocean is cool and crystal clear and there are no stingers in the vicinity. This is therefore a great season for snorkelling. Of course, there is bound to be the odd week of "bad weather" but to be honest, such a thing is very rare on Magnetic Island!

Sunset / Sunrise

Pretty much all year round you will see that the sun rises at roughly 6am and sets at roughly 6pm.

Tropical Cyclones

Magnetic Island is in a Cyclone prone area however the last big one to hit the Island was in the 70s. For updates on any potential Cyclones in the area or for any other weather warnings go to the Bureau of Meteorology website.
